Taj Farrant praises Ellen DeGeneres

Taj Farrant, 11, who shot to fame on the back of his mind-blowing appearance last year where he belted out Guns N’ Roses’ Sweet Child O’ Mine as a nine-year-old, has plans to return to the set.

The youngster from Gosford, north of Sydney, said he planned to tour the US once the pandemic allowed and hoped for a second appearance on Ellen “when I start touring again with my songs”.

His father Brandin told NCA NewsWire they have been in touch with the show’s producers about Taj returning following the release of his first single last week, Just Can’t Sleep, although it may not be until the second half of next year or even 2022 if he’s to appear in person.

Taj Farrant was just nine-years-old when he appeared on Ellen. His social media followers jumped from 40,000 to 100,000 after his solo of Guns N’ Roses’ Sweet Child O’ Mine last year. Picture: Ellen/YouTube

Brandin said Taj could not speak highly enough of Ellen or her producers after he played live for two minutes before sitting down to chat with the daytime star, showing maturity well beyond his years.

The family were guests of the show and were flown to the US where they also spent a day at Disneyland Park, California.

“People always ask me, what was it like. I cannot speak more highly of the franchise,” Brandin said.

“There was nothing that hard. They were great people. It was easy for us and she made it easy for the kids. Taj felt comfortable and he was even dancing in the green room.

“We are in talks at the moment to try and make that happen with the single being released.

“We have an acoustic version coming out and we may be able to get back and have another shot at Ellen, or maybe not.”

Ellen and her production team came under fire earlier this year with claims of a toxic work environment behind the scenes of her daytime show.

DeGeneres even directly addressed the “no eye contact” rule reportedly enforced on her employees, denying she was the one behind it.

Three senior producers were given their marching orders from The Ellen DeGeneres Show in the wake of damning allegations of racial insensitivity, sexual misconduct and a toxic workplace culture.

The controversy has done nothing to dampen Taj from appearing on Ellen again, Brandin said.

Taj only took up playing guitar as a seven-year-old, after seeing AC/DC at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium in 2015 and being mesmerised by Angus Young, although he says he has also been inspired by the-late Gary Moore (Thin Lizzy, Skid Row) and the-late Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Before appearing on Ellen, Taj was amassing a sizeable audience with several YouTube clips including an instrumental of David Allan Coe’s Tennessee Whiskey which has now been viewed more than seven million times.

“I reckon that’s what sent my followers sky high,” Taj said.

“Before I did Ellen I had 30,000 followers and within a couple of days it jumped 40,000 then 60,000 and then 100,000.”

However, after he appeared on Ellen, legendary guitarist Carlos Santana took notice as did Matchbox 20 lead singer Rob Thomas and Australian rock guitarist Orianthi.

The trio is among several high profile musicians who have taken more than a passing interest in Taj’s future and regularly touch base with him to catch-up on his latest accomplishments.

“I spoke Orianthi not long ago and Carlos we probably get the most messages from. He's a very spiritual person,” Taj said.

“They just ask ‘how ya doin’, what’s going on and asks me if there is anything they can help with.”

Besides musicians, guitar companies are also keeping a close eye on the 11-year-old’s progress.

Brandin said they have received more than 30 unsolicited guitars in the mail from musicians and guitar manufacturers since he appeared on Ellen.

“Every time I open the door there is another FedEx box and someone has sent him a guitar. He’s now got more than he will ever play.”

Among his most prized possessions is a 1964 original Gibson SG and signed, staged played-guitars, from Santana and Kiss who he also performed alongside.

In a video message sent from his recording studio, Diesel addressed Kelly.

“Kelly, I am so honoured to be able to debut my music on your show. I am blessed that in a year that I would normally be on a movie set — but as you know, that’s not possible — I’ve had another creative outlet. Another way to show you or share with you my heart.”

Kelly then played the song for the virtual audience while they all awkwardly danced and Twitter has had a field day with it.

Diplo stuns fans with steamy nude

The 41-year-old stripped down completely nude to capture his followers’ attention with his bare bum, and with 278,000 likes in a few hours, it seems to be working.

Gazing out over a picturesque lake in Jamaica, he captioned the cheeky snap: “Don’t forget to register to vote” – with a link to the Voting Information Centre attached.

The star behind global hits like Lean On and Sia’s Electric Heart has garnered praise for his efforts from A-list friends and fans alike.

“Peachy,” One Direction star Niall Horan commented.

“Turn around for us!” quipped a fan.

“Look at him doing the Lord’s work out here trying to save our democracy,” added another.

Taking to the comments section himself, he later wrote: “This post literally proves Instagram is a graveyard of asses and useless content.

“The Algorithm is a disease. Thanks @Zuck,” he wrote, tagging Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg.

Diplo, whose real name is Thomas Pentz, is no stranger to sharing intimate snaps with his 5.8 million Instagram followers to send a political message.

In December last year, he shared photos of himself sunning his nether regions from the top of a mountain, declaring it his “peace offering to climate change”.

Diplo was inspired by a Californian “healer” named Metaphysical Meagan, who posted a picture of herself on Instagram practising what she described as “perineum sunning”, prompting widespread ridicule for her claim that it boosted her health.

Earlier this year, Aussie singer Sia revealed she hit up her former collaborator for some casual sex.

“Much of our relationship is just being spent trying not to have sex so that we wouldn’t ruin our business relationship because he’s super-duper hot,” Sia told GQ for a feature on Diplo.

“This year I wrote him a text, and I said, ‘Hey, listen, you’re like one of five people that I’m sexually attracted to, and now that I’ve decided to be single for the rest of my life and I just adopted a son, I don’t have time for a relationship … If you’re interested in some no-strings sex, then hit me up.’”

Sia, 44, didn’t reveal whether Diplo took her up on the offer.

Harry Styles postpones Aussie tour

The former One Direction member took to Twitter to break the news, saying health and safety was the top priority.

“Which is why I unfortunately have to postpone all 2020 shows in South America, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand until further notice,” the post read.

“I really hope to play the shows as planned for 2021 but will continue to monitor the situation over the coming weeks and months. I can’t wait to see you all on the road as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

Ticketek said on Saturday the November-December tour was going ahead.

“The Harry Styles Australia & New Zealand tour is proceeding as planned and we are excited to welcome everyone to the events in November and December,” Ticketek wrote on Twitter.

“In the event of a cancellation, exchanges and refunds will be processed according to AU/NZ consumer law.”

Two days later, the agent updated fans, saying it took instructions from the tour promoters and was “urgently seeking clarification”.

Update to Harry Styles Fans: Ticketek takes its instructions on any news on the Harry Styles tour from the promoter, Live Nation Australia. We are urgently seeking clarification from the promoter and will be back to fans as soon as we have further information from them.— Ticketek Australia (@Ticketek_AU) September 14, 2020

A number of Aussie ticket holders vented their frustration on social media at the ticket agent after posting its initial tweet, which gave some fans false hope.

One fan wrote: “The fact that we’ve all accepted Harry’s Australian/NZ tour isn’t happening this year before the ticketing company has? Bold.”

Another said: “I’m expecting a reschedule but I have no idea why they’re taking forever to announce it.”

Star’s massive Aussie tour plan blasted: ‘What world do you live in?’

The former One Direction star is currently scheduled to embark on a world tour in just over two weeks, starting with three dates in Mexico later this month – a country with more than 125,000 active coronavirus cases.

The tour will come to Australia in late November, with Styles booked to play multiple arena dates – including two sold-out nights at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, which has a capacity of more than 14,000 people.

Melbourne is currently under one of the world’s toughest coronavirus lockdowns, with residents forced to abide by a 9pm curfew and only allowed to leave home each day for one of four valid reasons.

It’s hard to imagine 14,000 Melburnians cramming into a sold-out arena show in just 75 days’ time.

But, according to Styles’ local ticket seller Ticketek, that’s exactly what’s happening:

The Harry Styles Australia & New Zealand tour is proceeding as planned and we are excited to welcome everyone to the events in November and December. In the event of a cancellation, exchanges and refunds will be processed according to AU/NZ consumer law.— Ticketek Australia (@Ticketek_AU) September 12, 2020

Styles is the only major touring artist not to have rescheduled their Australian 2020 tour dates as the coronavirus pandemic swept the globe in recent months. Planned arena shows by the likes of Rod Stewart, Alanis Morissette and the Backstreet Boys have all been pushed back to 2021. A planned November tour by The Killers is still listed on Ticketek’s website, but tickets have been withdrawn from sale along with a note from the band saying they want fans “to stay focused on prevention and remaining safe and cautious right now.”

While tickets to both of Styles’ Melbourne concerts have sold out, Ticketek is still selling seats for the pop star’s other Australian shows, including two concerts at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena (capacity 21,000), scheduled for November 20 and 21.

You can still buy tickets for the Sydney shows.

Further complicating matters: News this weekend that Styles had signed on to star in a new thriller from director Olivia Wilde that’s due to start filming in the coming months.

Ticketek’s insistence that the tour is “proceeding as planned” was met with frustration from hundreds of fans, who dubbed the ticket seller as “delusional” and called on them to announce a cancellation:

Cardi B feuds with conservative commentator Candace Owens

In a series of bizarre expletive-laden videos in which she doesn’t appear on camera, Cardi B suggested Owens did not care about black people.

“She has an identity crisis. Just because she’s black, doesn’t mean she give a f**k about blacks,” Cardi B said after alleging that the father of Owens’ husband is part of a group she likened to an “upper-class KKK in the United Kingdom”.

Owens clapped back that Cardi B must not be showing her face in her videos because “she is reading a script”.

“You’re going to tell me she’s just not going to show her face in all these videos? She shows her face no matter what, no matter what she looks like,” Owens said. “So Cardi B, stop hiding. Stop reading your DNC script. You look ridiculous.”

Owens then held up a plush sheep to the camera and impersonated Cardi B in a mockery of her Instagram videos.

The feud between the two began Sunday evening after Owens, 31, shared a clip of her appearance on The Ben Shapiro Show: Sunday Edition.

Shapiro was mocked by the rapper last month after criticising her hit song WAP – which stands for “Wet-Ass P***y” – with his PG-rated live read of the lyrics going viral.

“Since most black people didn’t have the spine to admit that (Shapiro) was 100 per cent correct about (Cardi B) and how her music and platform contributes to the disintegration of black culture and values … here you go,” Owens captioned the clip from her sit-down.

In the interview, Owens called Cardi B “illiterate” and an unwitting tool of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

“It is one of the biggest insults,” she said.

“If black Americans are not insulted by the fact that Joe Biden, who has been hiding in his basement, you know, for the entire year, made an appearance to come out because he was going do an interview with Cardi B. Do we have nothing better to offer?”

Owens said Mr Biden was “pandering”. “You look at Cardi B’s Instagram, and you see she has millions of followers, and you think, ‘OK, this is an illiterate person, and if I appeal to this illiterate person … They think she’s cool … Black people will vote for me.’’” Owens said.

“It’s basically saying, ‘Black people, you are stupid, you are dumb, and you are so foolish.’”

Owens was referring to an interview with Cardi B that Biden took part in last month for Elle magazine. The rapper spoke about her fears as a black woman in America and how she’s already thinking about the safety of her two-year-old daughter.

In another tweet linking to a video of the interview with Shapiro, Owens wrote, “I’m almost six months pregnant and had to rip (Cardi B) a new WAP.”

Cardi B said in response, “Your baby singing wap wap wap this some dry a*s p***yyyy.”

Adele speaks out after Notting Hill Carnival pic sparks backlash

The north London singer posted a cheeky Jamaican greeting on Instagram, appearing to poke fun at the situation, writing: “Wah Gwaan! Yow gyal, yuh look good enuh.”

It comes after a picture led to a barrage of claims of cultural appropriation after she appeared clad in a Jamaican flag bikini top, feathers adorning her shoulders, gold chains around her neck and wrists and with her hair curled into tight knots.

Adele, Carnival-ready.

“Happy what would be Notting Hill Carnival my beloved London,” she captioned the pic, a nod to London’s huge annual carnival led by members of the British West Indian community, which has been cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But the 32-year-old star’s choice of attire — and especially a Bantu knot hairstyle usually worn by women of African descent — copped a roasting online, amid accusations of cultural appropriation:

If 2020 couldn't get anymore bizarre, Adele is giving us Bantu knots and cultural appropriation that nobody asked for. This officially marks all of the top white women in pop as problematic. Hate to see it. pic.twitter.com/N9CqPqh7GX— Ernest Owens (@MrErnestOwens) August 30, 2020

DJ Erick Morillo dead days before court hearing for sexual battery charges

His death was confirmed to Miami Beach outlet Local 10 News by Miami Beach Police Department’s Ernesto Rodriguez.

He was found dead after police responded to a call at 10:42am, and detectives are currently in the early stages of an investigation.

No other details, such as cause and date of the death have been announced.

TMZ reports that there were no apparent signs of foul play, and Morillo’s cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.

US DJ Erick Morillo.

Morillo’s death comes just under a month after he was arrested and charged with sexual battery on a woman at his home in December.

Despite denying the accusations, the musician turned himself in after a rape kit tested positive with his DNA.

His court hearing was scheduled for Friday.

The DJ worked under several pseudonyms, such as Reel 2 Reel, which is the name under which I Like to Move It was released. Other names he’s used include Ministers de la Funk, The Dronez, RAW and Smooth Touch.

Fans and dance music figures have paid tribute to the “troubled” DJ, who leaves behind a “complicated legacy” given the charges he was facing:

We can hold both thoughts concurrently:Erick Morillo left an undelible mark on house music; his death is tragic & premature. Also, Erick Morillo was out on bail after being arrested for sexually assaulting another DJ last year. His legacy is complicated but loss is still loss.— Zel McCarthy (@ZelMcCarthy) September 1, 2020

Confusion over Black Eyed Peas’ risque VMAs performance

Gracing the stage to round out the COVID-friendly ceremony – the first major awards ceremony of the pandemic era – the group performed with red glowing crotches.

Performing Vida Loca off of their latest album, Translation, with an additional snippet of I Gotta Feeling, fans were well and truly focused on Will. I.Am, Taboo and Apl. De. Ap’s white pants as they thrusted and gyrated around the stage like it was the mid-noughties.

Those watching along at home found it hard to escape the illuminated genitalia, given the camera repeatedly zoomed in on the area.

As many pointed out, it was an odd moment:
